Dolores P. Kearns

September 11, 1930 — May 7, 2025

Dolores P. (Koss) Kearns, age 94, a lifelong resident of Taunton, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Morton Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of John E. Kearns, Sr., who predeceased her in 2011 after 55 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Pauline (Piechota) Koss.

She was a graduate of Taunton High School, Class of 1948 and then earned an associate’s degree from Boston University.

Prior to retirement, Dolores worked as an assistant at the Taunton High School Library.

Dolores was a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Taunton, and before that was a very active member of the former Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in that city, participating in most parish activities over many years. She was a recipient of the Marian Medal for her service to the parish. Mrs. Kearns was also a member of the Polish American Citizens Club.

An avid painter, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and other crafts. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed being active and remained so.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and for being a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her most cherished times were those spent with her family, especially enjoying holidays and Sundays by the pool with them in the summer.

Dolores is survived by her daughter Linda A. Kanabay and her husband Michael of Taunton; a son John E. Kearns, Jr. of Taunton; two grandchildren Susan L. Lima and her husband Nelson and Michael J. Kanabay, Jr. and his wife Heather; five great grandchildren Austin Kanabay, Connor Kanabay, Harper Kanabay, Jackson Lima, and Madeline Lima; a sister-in-law Patricia Koss of West Yarmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stanley E. Koss.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Dolores’sfamily on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton. Her funeral will begin on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 8:30 am, from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Bay Street, Taunton. Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
