Mary C. (Krzywonos) Kullas

d. September 26, 2021

Mary Catherine (Krzywonos) Kullas, wife of the late Frank M. Kullas, was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, March 1, 1921, over 100 years ago. She is the daughter of the late Wojciech and Katarzyna (Kulik) Krzywonos. Mrs. Kullas attended schools in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and has lived in Norton, Massachusetts for the past 75 years.  She worked as a cook at Norton Schools and retired in 1981 from the Norton High School cafeteria after over 20 years of service.

Mrs. Kullas was a very active member of her church, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, in Taunton, MA.  She served as a communicant, as a member of the Holy Rosary Church Sodality and its treasurer for 28 years and on the Church Parish Council.  Mary was presented the Marion Medal in 1987 as a representative of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.  Mary and her late husband were on the Holy Rosary Church parish building committee and were an integral part of building the Parish Center in 1983.  She was the Kitchen Chairlady for the Holy Rosary Polish Picnic for 25 years.  She looked forward to the picnic every year and enjoyed organizing, cooking, and preparing the Polish food to be sold at the picnic.  In her later years, after retiring as Chairlady, you would still find her in the kitchen supervising the volunteers. Mary loved to knit and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Prayer Shawl Knitting Group, continuing to knit shawls until just recently.  Mrs. Kullas is a lifetime member of the Polish American Citizens Club.  With her husband Frank, they were one of the first members of the Norton High School Band Parents Association.

She is survived by her son Francis X. Kullas, and his wife, Candace, of Gypsum, Colorado; two grandsons, Nicholaus (and his wife Samantha) of New Castle, Colorado and Cameron of Gypsum, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Richard ‘Spike’ Kullas, of Hyannis Massachusetts.  She is predeceased by her brother’s, Steven, Joseph, Charles, Thomas, Stanley, and Mathew Krzywonos, and sister’s Genevie (Krzywonos) Salisbury of Pawtucket RI and Stasia (Krzywonos) Slota, of Warwick RI. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Mary extends a special thank you for the many local angels who have cared for her over the past many years.  These angels include nieces Gail Kullas Brookings and Karen E. Kullas; and friends Carolyn Straub, Susan Holland, Debbie Dunn, Brenda Fournier, Fran Ulak, and Patricia Thomas-Felici.
