Mary (Fido) Plonka

Mary Plonka (Fido) age 102, of Taunton, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Plonka.

Born and raised in Cumberland, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Wlodarczyk) Fido.

She worked as a supervisor for the City of Taunton at the Bennett School Cafeteria for twenty years prior to retirement.

Mary loved antiques and appraising them. She always helped others who were interested in antiques. Mrs. Plonka also enjoyed painting, was a good cook, and never refused her recipes when requested.

She is survived by her daughter Janet Zweigart of Taunton; her grandchildren, Peter Kmiec, Jennifer Kmiec, and Joseph Kmiec; and several nieces and nephews, especially her niece Karen Van Kruiningen for her care and endless devotion. Mary was preceded in death by all her siblings, Charles Fido, Edward Fido, Anna Heard, Helen Cranshaw, Stacia Baldyga, Josephine Marchak, and Joan Grondalski.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Mary’s family on Wednesday , December 27, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at the Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday , December 28, 2023, at 11:00 am, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross/Dexter Avenue Cemetery, in Seekonk, MA.
