Matthew S. Dykas Jr

Matthew S. Dykas, Jr., age 77, of Taunton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Born and raised in Taunton, he was the son of the late Matthew S. Dykas, Sr. and Victoria F. (Bednarz) Dykas. He graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School, Class of 1967, and attended Southern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth). Matt successfully owned and operated his own business, Taunton Chimney Sweep and Masonry Services.

Matthew played football and baseball in his youth and traveled extensively during his younger years. One of his favorite pastimes was taking his 1968 MG for rides during the summer. An avid sports fan, he held season tickets for the New England Patriots and loved cheering on the Boston Red Sox. Matt was also a deeply compassionate animal lover who took great pride in feeding and caring for neighborhood stray animals. He was a dedicated member and supporter of both the MSPCA and the National Wildlife Federation. In addition, he was a former member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Taunton and always enjoyed visiting the Pioneer.

He is survived by his siblings: Richard P. Dykas of California; Katherine M. Medas and her husband, John, of Berkley; and Carol A. Gedgaudas and her husband, John, of North Attleboro. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Matt’s family on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals & Cremation Services, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton. His interment at St. Joseph Cemetery will be held privately.
