Theodore P. Dykas , Patrolman Taunton Police Dept (ret). 93 years old, died on Tuesday December 13, 2016. He was the husband of Rosemary (Knox) Dykas.
He was born in Taunton son of the late Joseph and Mary ( Miga) Dykas. He was also the husband of the late Nellie (Folick) Dykas.
Ted was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church, where he was very active in the Kolbe Guild and St Vincent de Paul Society and as a “Joseph”. Ted was awarded the Marian Medal in 1994. He was educated in Taunton Schools. For over 32 years he served the City of Taunton as a member of the Taunton Police Department. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club where he was on the board of directors of the Club for years. Ted served in the US Army during WW II. He served in Central Europe from 1943 to 1945. He received the European African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign, Victory and Good Conduct Medals.
Besides his wife Rosemary of Taunton, Ted is survived by a daughter Jane De Souza and her husband Zack and a son James Dykas and his wife Susan. He is the brother of Matthew Dykas of Taunton. Ted is the grandfather of seven and the great grandfather of two and he is the uncle of four.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Church at 10 AM on Saturday December 17, 2016 . Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM in the Sowiecki Funeral Home, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton, MA Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
