Anita A. (Gorczyca) Laffan

May 17, 1927 — May 7, 2021

Anita A. Laffan (Gorczyca), 93 of Taunton passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John F. Laffan who died in 1977 and devoted mother of Patricia A. (Patty) Laffan who provided exceptional care for her mom throughout the years.

Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Walenty W. and Mary A. (Mucha) Gorczyca.

She worked as the clerk for Western Union and Aetna and as a senior aide for the city of Taunton, retiring at age 75. Anita was a devout Catholic who trusted in the Lord in good times and bad. She was a communicant of Saint Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton.

Being around her family and spending time with them was especially important to her. In her 80’s, Anita was devoted to and cared for her beloved sister Jennie until she passed at 101.

A favorite pastime was sitting on the deck at her daughter’s cottage in West Island, Fairhaven, MA enjoying a sunny day. She had a fondness for anything chocolate but mostly cookies and doughnuts. She loved the family dog “Finn” who benefited from her often sneaking samples of her meal to him!

Anita, fondly called “Tona” was the “baby” of a large close-knit Polish family. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Midgley, Joseph Gorczyca, Irene Yorkoski, Jennie Gorczyca, John Gorczyca, Walter Gorczyca and Valeria Starvish. She is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Every child should have an “Auntie Tona,” a role model for kindness and compassion.

Her funeral with visitation will be held on Tuesday , May 11, 2021, from 8:30 am to 10:15 am, in the Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals & Cremation Services, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton.

Handicap access is located on the left side of the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 80 Bay Street, Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Glebe Street, Taunton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities, Saint Andrew’s Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton, MA 02780 in Anita’s memory and would be deeply appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sowiecki-Snyder Home for Funerals & Cremation Services.
