Wilbur Crawford Disbrow

September 10, 1949 — July 14, 2020

Wilbur Crawford Disbrow, III , 70, of South Dartmouth passed away peacefully after a period of failing health on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford surrounded by his wife and children.

Will was born in Boston, MA on September 10, 1949 to Jeannette Claire (Horney) and Wilbur Crawford Disbrow, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Judith “Penny” Cort Disbrow and their five children: Casey Jean Stacy and her husband Robert; Jody Claire Disbrow; Kate Elizabeth Disbrow and her longtime companion Patrick Buckley; Jeremy “Jed” Edwin Disbrow and his wife Kerri-Ann; and Ian Michael Disbrow, as well as his nine wonderful grandchildren: Abigail, Robert, Wilbur, Haily, Patricia, Graciana, Oliver, Forest, and Henry. He also leaves behind his sisters: Janet Merkley and her husband Brandon; Diane Powers; and Donna Hickey and her husband Michael; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his aunt, Margaret Hurley. He was also very close to his three brothers-in law, John, Edward and Michael Cort.

Will grew up in the areas of Boston and Brockton. When he was a young boy, his family spent  several years in Glendale, AZ, an experience he remembered with great fondness.

He graduated from Brockton High School and attended Quincy Junior College. After his marriage, he was employed in the baking industry for many years working in sales and delivery for Entenmann’s. He was his company’s shop steward as well as the treasurer for Local 494 in Quincy.

Although Will was an avid pool player and fisherman, which he enjoyed teaching his children, nieces and nephews,  baseball was the great love of his life. After retirement, he began a tour of the American League parks across the country, and a few iconic others, with his close friend Joseph Lacasse, missing only two on the list. He was involved for years with the Brookfield Little League in Brockton as a player and later as a coach andboard member. He tried to attend every Bourne Braves Summer League game with his daughter, grandchildren, nephew, and friends. Will also loved music, particularly jazz and the blues. He enjoyed attending live performances at different venues and discussing his newest favorites.

Family was especially important to Will. His grandchildren filled his life with tremendous joy. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations and spending time with them. He was never able to meet his newest grandson, Henry, but his eyes lit up when he saw pictures of him. He loved walking along the Cape Cod Canal and Falmouth Bike Trail, and logged many happy miles on the Cape. His love of the ocean was forged spending time as an adolescent with his grandfather, Ted Horney, at the Old Colony Yacht Club and on Dorchester Bay and Boston Harbor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Because of the current pandemic, a memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Church of Our Savior Episcopal in Middleboro at a time and date to be determined. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SOWIECKI-SNYDER HOME FOR FUNERALS & CREMATION SERVICES, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton, MA
